Why Tarot
There is a limit to what logic alone can “fix.” Otherwise, we’d have the magic equation to make perfect sense of relationships, uncertainty, coincidences, and inner conflicts without second-guessing. Logic is necessary, but it falters when we face decision fatigue, “hurry sickness,” or a lack of clear information.
It can be difficult to discern intuition from emotional and trauma-based responses, especially in a fast-paced and demanding world. Our minds become distracted and easily fragmented, caught up in black-and-white thinking, obsessive rumination, emotional reactivity, or fear-based responses, leading to less-than-optimal decision-making.
Personal logic also falls short when we do not engage deeper layers of our brain. What is considered our “logical” brain, or left hemisphere of our neocortex, actually only accounts for less than a third of our three “brains” or what is commonly referred to as our triune brain. The other two brains - our “reptilian” or instinctual brain, and our “mammalian” or emotional brain - along with the right hemisphere of our neocortex or “higher” brain do not use “logic.”
Utilizing more of our brains helps us access a more holistic ‘intelligence’ that logic alone misses.
Knowing whose “logic” to trust can be complicated, especially when friends, family, and other people may not fully understand you, your situation, your specific calling, or how to manage change and transitions they have not encountered themselves in life. They may also prefer you to respond to life and changes in ways that maintain their world views and status of your relationship with them, which would make their form of logic more egoic and emotion-based.
This is where the cards come in. Tarot and oracle readings circumvent ego defenses, and purely emotion- and trauma-driven thoughts and impulses so that subconscious and collective conscious material can be accessed. The insights and intuitive impressions you get during a reading are meant for you and you alone. Different layers and meaning are revealed at the right time and in the right way. Only you will know what to do or not do with it.
